| Our Chapter's History |
| Well, it started simple enough. One Man's Passion for Group Riding. Being the proud owner of a 1986 Suzuki Cavalcade. I was an active member of their forum. From there we are able to communicate with others to find tech tips and parts. Through that forum, I was introduced to a man, Ed "TowerRat" Ritcherson. He was the first rider I met who had connections to the Southern Cruisers Riding Club. At that time, I believe he was in the process of getting his own SCRC Chapter off the ground, as it's 1st Officer. I went to the SCRC National web site and did some browsing. Needless to say, I really liked what I saw. I was impressed with the fact: that there is a club structured just for me! The more I read, the more I wanted to be a part of this organization. So I applied. That was in March of 2005. I signed up as a 'Member at Large" Because there wasn't a Chapter in my area. Later, I would find out that there was, but it was disbanded. In the Spring of 2005, I was itching to get a group ride together, so I called on my Cavalcade Friends to join in on a "Spring Run". We met at the Loveless café in Nashville for breakfast. Then it was on to Ride the Trace. At the café I was able to meet my first real Southern Cruiser. We all know him affectionately as "Sweeper". Wow, what a character. Through his enthusiasm, for the Club, I knew then and there- I am to be a Southern Cruiser! After couple rides/event and a lot of "Forum" time with the members of Chapter 6. I knew in my heart that it was time to bring the Southern Cruisers back to the Upper Cumberland area. So, I applied for a Chapter. Oct 3rd 2005 the Upper Cumberland Chapter was officially given it's Chapter number. And, I was it's 1st officer. Now What To Do?!? I started trying to recruit everyone I knew with a motorcycle, with much disappointment! It seems that everyone don't share my passion for "Group Riding". I was fortunate enough to pick up a few members of the old Chapter that was here. I'll take this moment to especially thank Sid Dixon for helping our Chapter bridge the gap, between the Old and New! And, He is an awesome Person, Host, and Cook. Not to bad on his Valkery either :-) We've got some really solid people and clubs in our area, that have embraced Our New Chapter. It is a pleasure to share the roads with them. A Big Thanks should go out to the: Riders of the Wind e.c. Blood Bought Bikers (CMA) Upper Cumberland HOG Cavalcade_USA You all are teaching me what it is to be a good leader and a friend. Our Chapter is growing stronger and is heading in a very positive direction. I am so proud to be a part of that. Thank you all!! "BigDaddy" Rick Moore 10/13/06 |
